According to the FSB, the thwarted attacks were part of a broader series of sabotage and terrorist acts attributed to Ukrainian intelligence services relying on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles

The FSB announced it has thwarted a plot by Ukrainian intelligence services to conduct large-scale attacks using "swarms" of unmanned aerial vehicles against the Ukrainka military airbase in the Amur region and the Shagol airbase in the Chelyabinsk region. According to the Russian intelligence service, the alleged perpetrators and accomplices of the planned terrorist acts have been arrested.

24 FPV drones seized

As reported by the Public Relations Center of the FSB, Russian intelligence services received timely information that Ukrainian intelligence had transferred airplane-type unmanned aerial vehicles and FPV drones, equipped with explosive warheads and mobile ground control stations, to the Bryansk region for the purpose of preparing attacks on the two military airbases. The FSB announced that it seized 24 FPV drones equipped with artificial intelligence units which, according to the service, are resistant to electronic warfare tactics.22222_15.jpg

Transported... even by balloon

According to the claims of the Russian service, the FPV drones were initially transported to Bryansk via unmanned aerial vehicles and balloons. Subsequently, individuals allegedly acting on behalf of Kyiv transported the drones inside Russia using passenger vehicles equipped with double-bottom trailers, camouflaged as shipments of household appliances. They were then assembled and prepared for use in rented garages near the Ukrainka and Shagol airbases. "As a result of operational and combat operations, the perpetrators and accomplices of the planned terrorist acts were arrested," the FSB stated. The service also claimed that all illegal actions were under the close operational surveillance of Russian security services and were recorded, while the Investigative Directorate of the FSB has already initiated the prescribed criminal proceedings.12_275.jpg

Part of a broader attack plan

According to the FSB, the thwarted attacks were part of a broader series of sabotage and terrorist acts attributed to Ukrainian intelligence services that relied on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. The service recalled that it had previously announced the prevention of assassination plots against two senior officers of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the Moscow region, as well as the prevention of a "swarm" drone attack against the Rostov-Centralny military airbase in Rostov-on-Don.

Arrests of perpetrators and accomplices

The FSB announced that the alleged perpetrators and accomplices of the planned attacks have been arrested. "As a result of operational and combat operations, the perpetrators and accomplices of the terrorist acts were arrested," the official statement reads. The service added that the Investigative Directorate of the FSB has made the prescribed procedural decisions regarding the case.113_13.jpg

Reference to Russian legislation

The FSB recalled that, according to Article 205 of the Criminal Code of Russia, a person participating in the preparation of a terrorist act may be exempted from criminal liability if they warn the authorities in a timely manner or otherwise contribute to preventing it, provided that no other offense has been committed. At the same time, it cited Article 31 of the same Code, according to which anyone who voluntarily and permanently abandons the completion of a criminal act bears no criminal liability.
